Transport Working Group
The next meeting of the Transport Working Group will be in July (date tba) from 7pm in the Baptist Church Hall Seaford
The Seaford Community Partnership, as a co-ordinating and advisory body which looks to raise Seaford’s needs and strengths in Councils and other public forums, has been looking at transport needs across the town. Seaford Seniors’ Forum has been doing the same, especially regarding transport to hospitals and clinics in Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings.
Other groups, such as Cycle Seahaven, and the Seaford and Newhaven Access Group, have also raised concerns about the lack of provision, and the lack of co-ordination across the town. There have been groups, such as the former Seaford Residents’ Association, which campaigned for safer cycle routes to schools. There has been heated debate for and against cycling on the promenade.
And now the future of local bus services, including the 126, is very much in the balance with the deadline for public comment to ESCC coming before the end of September.
There are other new developments, such as the Brighton-Seaford Working Group of the Sussex Community Rail Partnership, which put on the successful Seaford Rail 150. Seaford’s voice is heard strongly in this forum.
To co-ordinate, rationalise and strengthen local debate about transport needs, and solutions, the SCP and the Seaford Seniors are hosting a new Transport Working Group (rather like the existing Seafront Group) and are hoping to hear from people who would like to be involved. It will be a talking shop at first, but also a listening ear, to hear what the local needs are and then to campaign for them. It hopes to hear from drivers, walkers, cyclists, electric-buggy-users, Cuckmere and CTLA buses, taxi drivers, commuters and leisure travellers.
